This is a clinic for musicians with the Latin jazz trombonist Jimmy Bosch where he demonstrates and explains variations in salsa music. The teaching will be practically oriented, and all musicians will be actively involved during the whole class on their instrument.

About Jimmy Bosch

Jimmy Bosch, also known as “El Trombon Criollo” (The Creole Trombone), is a jazz and salsa music trombonist, composer, and bandleader of Puerto Rican descent, born in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA.

Jimmy Bosch, with 11 Grammys for his CD productions, and with more than 100 salsa and Latin Jazz recordings, is an experienced bandleader and exceptional performer in over 70 countries.

Jimmy Bosch is coveted by a large audience for his impressive performance on stage, and his sound is well known to Latin Jazz and Salsa fans around the world.

Jimmy Bosch is considered one of the founders of the salsa music we have today along with Eddie Palmieri, Ray Baretto, Ruben Blades, Fania All Stars, Frankie Vasquez, and others.

Jimmy Bosch will perform with the Salsa band Tromboranga on May 26 at 19:00 at SALT.

Master class for musicians (group):

• Students will learn improvisation and develop spontaneous riffs, counterpoint, harmonization and playing the clave. Jimmy Bosch go through all aspects of music with the musicians. All this applies to salsa or Afro-Caribbean rhythms, such as Cha Cha Cha, Guaguanco, Rumba, Mambo, Son Montuno and Bolero.

• Vocal, Coro, percussion, brass, elements of listening to each other, improvisation, swing, groove and clave.

For the brass section, he will focus on ear training to develop moñas and solos. Spontaneous riff development with clave in mind always. How to feel if it is in the clave or not.

• With the trombone, Jimmy Bosch can demonstrate developing a moña and building it up by letting the participants sing the parts.

• Listen to identify changes in energy in a musical piece.

• Name the different parts in a musical piece; intro, Mambo, Moña, Coda and solos.

• Instrumentation: The role of each section or instrument.

• Learn some basic musical terms: montuno, guajeo, tumbao, rhythm, swing, groove, clave, melody, harmony, syncopation and pulse.
